What is a parlay bet?

The parlay is a multi-bet wager that links multiple individual wagers, all of which must win for the wager to succeed. Compared to betting on each selection separately, this type of bet offers higher payouts because the odds are multiplied together. The potential payout for each wager is calculated by multiplying its odds by its stake using parlay formulas. There is, however, a greater risk because if one bet loses, the whole parlay is lost.

Example of a parlay bet

A parlay bet is a combination of multiple wagers that only wins if all the wagers it contains are accurate. Let’s take a match between the Manchester United and Manchester City as an example.

In a successful parlay bet, one may wager on Manchester United to win, the total number of goals to be over 2.5, and both teams to score.
If the final score is Manchester United 3 - 1 Manchester City, all conditions are met: Manchester United wins, there are four goals, and both teams score. Due to the successful outcome of all individual bets, the parlay bet is a winner.

Conversely, an unsuccessful parlay bet might involve wagering on Manchester City to win, the total goals to be under 3.5, and the first goal to be scored by City. If Manchester United wins 2 - 0 against Manchester City, City does not win, and United scores first. Although there are less than 3.5 goals in total, the parlay bet loses because not all individual bets win.
